Our adventure begins once we leave the town of Argostoli and head off to St. George’s castle, a castle/fortress that was built almost 800 years ago and used to be the capital of the island for centuries.
As we move on to our next destinations, first we head west & then up on our way to the north coasts of Kefalonia. We make a brief stop to admire the magnificent “Myrtos” bay from above & take some photos and then we change our course heading to the east coast towards the bay of "Agia Efimia" for lunch. This namesake beautiful traditional fishing village is one of the hotspots of the island, has amazing views & unique charm.
After we spend our time feasting on delicious local flavours & enjoying the atmosphere the place offers, we continue our tour making for the mythical home of the Nymphs with the crystal aquamarine waters, the extraordinary “Melissani” cave lake – where we have the chance to have a little boat ride and then on to the “Drogarati” cave where we take the steps down into this majestic cave, saunter around it admiring the impressive formations of stalactites & stalagmites and the chambers that nature carves throughout the centuries.
After a little time of rest & the opportunity to have a cool drink & to shop in the little gift shops around the area, we continue our tour passing by all-green landscapes to reaching the base of the mountain “Aenos” and heading into the valley of “Omala”. There we visit the “Robolla” wine Co-operative where we discover the special taste of this Kefalonian grape variety and we also visit the grand monastery of “St. Gerasimos”, the patron saint of the Island.
Finally a short bus ride, with unforgettable views from above to the town of Argostoli, finds us back where we began our day out.
